The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
